Air purifier Black Friday and Prime Day deal check: match the smoke CADR to the room before you trust the discount

An air purifier deal is real only if its smoke CADR is at least two-thirds of the room's square feet (AHAM). The box room size is the 1-air-change figure.

Short answer

An air purifier on sale is a good deal only if its smoke CADR fits the room, so check that before the discount. AHAM’s rule: the smoke CADR should be at least two-thirds of the room’s floor area in square feet, so a 12 x 15 ft room (180 sq ft) needs a smoke CADR of 120 or more. The room size on the box is the wrong number: the Winix 5510 product page lists a maximum of 1,882 sq ft at one air change an hour and an AHAM verified room size of 392 sq ft. Then check a CARB certified label, because EPA says to avoid air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone, and the filter interval, because yearly filter cost is the filter price times 12 divided by the maker’s interval in months. Prime Big Deal Days run October 6-7, 2026 per Amazon; Black Friday is November 27, and Amazon has not announced its Black Friday window.

The picks

  1. Living room up to about 350 sq ft, wants a washable pre-filter

    Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH

Coway product page: CADR 233 smoke / 246 dust / 240 pollen, 361 sq ft at 4.8 air changes an hour, 874 at 2, 1,748 at 1; HEPA filter 1 year, deodorization filter 6 months, washable pre-filter; AHAM, CARB and warranty not printed on the page read

  2. Bedroom or office up to about 380 sq ft, wants the AHAM figure printed

    Winix 5510

Winix product page: CADR 253 smoke / 247 pollen / 252 dust, AHAM verified room size 392 sq ft at 4.8 air changes an hour, maximum 1,882 sq ft; HEPA and carbon filters 12 months each; AHAM, UL and CARB listed; 2-year warranty

  3. Room up to about 375 sq ft and wants app control; filter interval not published

    Levoit Vital 200S-P

Levoit product page: CADR 250 CFM with no pollutant named, 388 sq ft at 4.8 air changes an hour, 1,862 at 1; no CARB or ETL wording on the page read; 2-year limited warranty; no filter interval and no AHAM figure on the page read

  4. Open-plan space up to about 490 sq ft by the AHAM rule

    Coway Airmega 400 (AP-2015F)

Coway product page: CADR 328 smoke / 328 dust / 400 pollen, 1,560 sq ft at 2 air changes an hour, 3,120 at 1; Max2 filter set 1 year (about 12 months) gauged by usage; AHAM and CARB not printed on the page read

Do not buy an air purifier because the deal badge is bright; buy it because its smoke CADR covers your room’s square feet. If it does not, the discount is on the wrong unit.

The price and any “Save” figure on each card above are Amazon’s live numbers with Amazon’s time stamp; this page states no price of its own.

Is the discount real?

The percentage depends on the denominator. Amazon’s seller guidance defines the struck-through List Price as the suggested retail price from a manufacturer, supplier or seller, validated against sales in its store and external competitor prices, and a Typical Price as the median customers paid in Amazon’s store over the past 90 days, excluding limited-time promotions.

A saving against a List Price nobody paid is a different claim from a saving against the 90-day median. The FTC’s Guides Against Deceptive Pricing, 16 CFR 233.1, accept a former-price comparison only when the former price is the actual, bona fide price offered to the public on a regular basis for a reasonably substantial period.

Amazon’s announcement puts Prime Big Deal Days at October 6-7, 2026, from 12:01 a.m. PDT on October 6, for Prime members. Black Friday is Friday November 27, 2026 and Cyber Monday November 30, by the calendar: as of 2 October, Amazon had not published a Black Friday window on any page this site could open.

Which smoke CADR fits your room?

CADR, the Clean Air Delivery Rate, is the volume of filtered air a unit delivers per minute, measured separately for tobacco smoke, dust and pollen. AHAM’s rule is a smoke CADR at least two-thirds of the room’s floor area in square feet; for wildfire smoke, a smoke CADR equal to the room area.

RoomFloor areaMinimum smoke CADR (two-thirds rule)Wildfire smoke (equal to area)
10 x 12 ft bedroom120 sq ft80120
12 x 15 ft bedroom180 sq ft120180
15 x 20 ft living room300 sq ft200300
20 x 25 ft open plan500 sq ft334500

EPA’s Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home prints a chart in the same range: 100 sq ft needs a minimum CADR of 65 cfm, 600 sq ft needs 390 cfm. The CADR calculator runs the rule; by it the Coway Airmega 400’s smoke CADR of 328 covers about 490 sq ft and the Winix 5510’s 253 about 380.

Why is the room size on the box the wrong number?

The large number on a listing is the area the unit turns over once an hour; the AHAM figure is the area at 4.8 air changes an hour. The maker pages print both.

Model (maker page)Room size at 1 air changeRoom size at 4.8 air changesSmoke CADR
Winix 55101,882 sq ft maximum392 sq ft, AHAM verified253
Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH1,748 sq ft (874 at 2)361 sq ft233
Levoit Vital 200S-P1,862 sq ft388 sq ft250 CFM, pollutant not named
Levoit Core 300-P1,066 sq ft222 sq ft143 CFM, pollutant not named
Coway Airmega 400 (AP-2015F)3,120 sq ft (1,560 at 2)not printed328

The Winix 5510 is the clean example: 1,882 divided by 392 is 4.8, the air-change basis Winix prints (OwnerSpec’s arithmetic). Its Amazon title reads “Up to 1881 Ft² in 1 Hr”; a 1,881 sq ft room needs a smoke CADR around 1,250 by AHAM’s rule.

The second trap is a CADR with nobody behind it. AHAM’s Verifide directory lists certified models by CADR, suggested room size, manufacturer and brand; the AHAM seal prints all three CADR figures. Only the Winix page above prints an AHAM verified figure; Levoit gives one CADR without naming the pollutant. A number not in the directory is the maker’s own test.

Does it make ozone?

EPA’s air cleaner guide says no federal agency has approved ozone generators for use in occupied spaces and advises against air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone; electrostatic precipitators, ionizers, UV lights without adequate lamp coatings and plasma air cleaners may have the potential to emit it. EPA points to the CARB and AHAM lists and certifies no brand.

The California Air Resources Board sets the ozone emission limit for electronic air cleaners at 0.050 ppm, has required certification for portable indoor air cleaners sold in California since 2010, and publishes the wording to look for: Meets California ozone emissions limit, CARB certified. On the pages read, Winix lists CARB for the 5510, Levoit calls the Core 300-P CARB compliant and ozone free and the Vital 200S-P, Coway Mighty and Airmega 400 pages do not mention CARB. An ionizer or plasma mode that cannot be switched off is a reason to pick another unit.

What will the filters cost after the sale?

The purchase price is one line; filters are every year after. Fill in from the maker’s page:

  • Filters per year = 12 / maker interval in months
  • Yearly filter cost = filter price x filters per year
  • Add a second line for any unit with two filters on different intervals
ModelMaker-published intervalFilters per year
Levoit Core 300 series (Core 300-P, P350-P, 300-P-RAC)6 to 8 months, Levoit filter page1.5 to 2
Winix 5510HEPA 12 months, carbon 12 months1 of each
Coway Airmega Mighty AP-1512HHHEPA 1 year, deodorization 6 months, pre-filter washable1 HEPA + 2 deodorization
Coway Airmega 400Max2 set 1 year (about 12 months), gauged by usage1 set
Levoit Vital 200S-Pnot printed on the page readunknown

A unit with no genuine filter for sale, or no published interval, cannot be costed; the replacement filter by model page lists part numbers and intervals.

Before you add it to the cart

Measure the room and multiply by two-thirds: that number decides between a 143 CFM bedroom unit and a 328 smoke-CADR open-plan unit, and no discount survives the wrong one. Then open the maker’s filter page and confirm the interval and that a genuine filter is sold.

What should you do first?

  1. Measure the room: length x width in feet.
  2. Multiply by two-thirds (or by one for wildfire smoke) to get the minimum smoke CADR.
  3. Read the smoke CADR and the 4.8-air-change room size on the maker’s page, not the box figure.
  4. Look for the CARB certified wording and check whether any ionizer mode switches off.
  5. Open the filter page: interval in months, and whether a genuine filter is sold.
  6. Compare the card’s saving against the Typical Price, not only the List Price.

Frequently asked questions

What does the struck-through List Price on an Amazon air purifier listing mean?

Amazon's seller guidance defines the List Price as the suggested retail price provided by a manufacturer, supplier or seller, which Amazon validates against sales in its own store and external competitor prices. A separate Typical Price is the median customers paid in Amazon's store over the past 90 days, excluding limited-time promotions. The percentage saving depends on which of those two is the denominator.

How big a CADR does my room need?

AHAM's rule is a smoke CADR at least two-thirds of the room's floor area in square feet: a 12 x 15 ft room is 180 sq ft and needs a smoke CADR of 120 or more. For wildfire smoke AHAM raises that to a smoke CADR equal to the room area. EPA's chart: 100 sq ft needs a minimum 65 cfm, 600 sq ft needs 390 cfm.

Why does the box say 1,800 square feet when the AHAM room size is under 400?

The large number is the area the unit turns over once an hour; the AHAM figure is the area at 4.8 air changes an hour. The Winix 5510 page prints both: 1,882 sq ft maximum and 392 sq ft AHAM verified. Coway's Mighty AP-1512HH page prints 1,748 sq ft at one air change and 361 at 4.8. Size from the 4.8 figure or the smoke CADR.

How do I know an air purifier does not make ozone?

Look for the California Air Resources Board wording on the box or page: Meets California ozone emissions limit, CARB certified. CARB's limit for electronic air cleaners is 0.050 ppm of ozone, and portable air cleaners sold in California have needed that certification since 2010. EPA says to avoid air cleaners that intentionally produce ozone and notes that ionizers, electrostatic precipitators and plasma units may emit some.

What will the replacement filters cost over a year?

Multiply the filter price on the maker's page by 12 divided by the interval in months the maker publishes. Levoit says to replace the Core 300 series filter every 6 to 8 months, so 1.5 to 2 filters a year; Winix prints 12 months for both 5510 filters; Coway's Mighty uses a 1-year HEPA and a 6-month deodorization filter. No filter price is written here because it changes.

Answer
An air purifier on sale is a deal only if its smoke CADR is at least two-thirds of the room’s square feet, per AHAM: a 180 sq ft room needs a smoke CADR of 120 or more. The box room size is the one-air-change figure: Winix prints 1,882 sq ft maximum and 392 sq ft AHAM verified for the 5510. Yearly filter cost is filter price x 12 / maker interval in months.
Basis
AHAM’s two-thirds rule for smoke CADR and its Verifide directory, EPA’s CADR sizing chart and ozone guidance, CARB’s 0.050 ppm ozone limit, Amazon’s List Price and Typical Price definitions, 16 CFR 233.1 on former-price comparisons, and the room-size, CADR and filter-interval figures printed on the Winix, Coway and Levoit product pages.
Assumptions
  • Room area is length x width of one room with the door closed; an open-plan space is sized as the whole connected area
  • The maker’s one-air-change room size and its 4.8-air-changes figure describe the same fan on the same CADR; the ratio 1,882 / 392 = 4.8 for the Winix 5510 is OwnerSpec’s arithmetic
  • Prime Big Deal Days are October 6-7, 2026 per Amazon; Black Friday is Friday November 27, 2026 by the calendar, and Amazon had not announced a Black Friday window when this page was checked
Method
Spec comparison of maker-published CADR, room-size and filter-interval figures, AHAM and EPA sizing guidance and Amazon’s own pricing definitions, read on 2026-10-02. Nothing was bench-tested and no unit was run. Prices and savings on the product cards are Amazon’s live figures and are never written into this page.
