## Short answer

For a large room up to 606 sq ft the pick is the Levoit Core 600S-P: the AHAM Verifide
directory lists its smoke CADR at 391 and its suggested room size at 606 sq ft, the ENERGY
STAR dataset lists it at 387 kWh per year, and Levoit prints 49 W and a 2-year warranty. Up
to 674 sq ft the Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max leads on paper at smoke CADR 435 and 46 W with
an ENERGY STAR Most Efficient flag, but CARB lists it as Electronic. The largest
filtration-only listing is the Coway Airmega 450, 687 sq ft in the ENERGY STAR dataset,
with no AHAM entry. Size by AHAM's rule, a smoke CADR of at least two-thirds of the floor
area, never by the carton: Levoit's 2909 sq ft is the one-air-change figure for the same
fan. No AHAM-listed portable covers 1,000 sq ft; the largest is 714 sq ft, so an open plan
that size needs two units.

## Fact sheet

- **Answer:** Up to 606 sq ft the pick is the Levoit Core 600S-P: AHAM smoke CADR 391, ENERGY STAR certified at 387 kWh per year, 49 W. Up to 674 sq ft the Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max leads at smoke CADR 435 and 46 W but is CARB Electronic; the Coway Airmega 450 is the largest Mechanical listing at 687 sq ft. No AHAM-listed portable covers 1,000 sq ft; the largest is 714 sq ft.
- **Comparison basis:** AHAM Verifide directory smoke, dust and pollen CADR and suggested room size at 4.8 ACH; the AHAM white paper formula room size = smoke CADR x 1.55; the ENERGY STAR Certified Room Air Cleaners V3.0 dataset; the CARB list of certified air cleaning devices; maker pages for watts, dB, filter part number, interval and warranty, for ten units sold on Amazon US.
- **Assumptions:** Room area is the whole connected floor the air can reach, length x width, with an 8-foot ceiling, which is what AHAM's 1.55 factor assumes; A maker's one-air-change room size describes the same fan as its 4.8 ACH figure; the carton number is about five times the AHAM number; AHAM, ENERGY STAR and CARB listings were read on 2026-10-09 and change as makers certify new revisions; the model code on the box must match the listed code
- **Method:** OwnerSpec compared certifier listings and manufacturer-published specifications read on 2026-10-09 and confirmed each Amazon listing buyable the same day; it did not run, measure or test any air purifier, prints no health outcome, and reports only figures the cited document states.

If the room is under 350 sq ft this is the wrong page: the
[bedroom and living room review](/air/reviews/best-air-purifier-for-bedroom-and-living-room/)
covers the units that fit there for less money.

## How was this shortlist built?

OwnerSpec compared ten units sold on Amazon US against four published listings, read on
9 October 2026. Nothing was run or measured; this is a spec comparison.

| Listing | What it gives | Where it was read |
| --- | --- | --- |
| AHAM Verifide directory | Smoke, dust and pollen CADR and a suggested room size at 4.8 air changes per hour | ahamdir.com, US market |
| ENERGY STAR Room Air Cleaners V3.0 dataset | Whether the model is certified, its kWh per year, the Most Efficient flag | data.energystar.gov |
| CARB certified air cleaning devices | Mechanical (filtration only) or Electronic | ww2.arb.ca.gov |
| Maker product page | Watts, dB, filter part number and interval, warranty | Levoit, Blueair, Coway, Winix, Honeywell |

CADR, the clean air delivery rate, is the cubic feet per minute of particle-free air a unit
delivers under AHAM's test. AHAM's directory page states the sizing rule: a tobacco smoke
CADR of at least two-thirds of the room's area, so a 10 by 12 ft room of 120 sq ft needs 80
or more. AHAM's 2026 white paper gives the formula behind the seal: suggested room size in
sq ft equals smoke CADR times 1.55, at 4.8 air changes per hour under an 8-foot ceiling.

Turned around for this page: 350 sq ft needs a smoke CADR of about 233, 700 sq ft needs
about 467, and 1,000 sq ft needs about 667. The
[CADR room-size calculator](/air/calculators/air-purifier-room-size-cadr-calculator/) does
that arithmetic for any room and ceiling height.

Coway has no entries in the US AHAM directory, so its two units carry ENERGY STAR and maker
figures instead. Dyson is absent from the directory too and is left out. The Winix Tower XQ,
the largest AHAM listing found at 714 sq ft, is not sold as a unit on Amazon US and is
named here only as the ceiling.

## How do the units compare on paper?

CADR and room size are AHAM's directory figures at 4.8 ACH unless marked. Filter part
numbers and intervals are the maker's printed figures; "not printed" means the maker page
gives none.

| Model | CADR smoke / dust / pollen | AHAM room, sq ft | Filter type and replacement part | ENERGY STAR | CARB type |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Winix 5510 | 253 / 252 / 247 | 392 | True HEPA + carbon, Filter Q 1712-0123-00, carbon 12 months | Not listed | Electronic |
| Levoit Vital 200S-P | 250 / 254 / 289 | 388 | HEPA + carbon, part not printed, 6-12 months | Not listed | Mechanical |
| Blueair Blue Pure 311i Max | 283 / 314 / 365 | 439 | Particle + carbon, F3MAX, up to 9 months | Certified, 193 kWh/yr | Electronic |
| Honeywell HPA304 | 300 / 320 / 300 | 465 | HEPA + pre-filter, parts not printed for HPA304 | Not listed | Mechanical |
| Winix 9800 | 337 / 340 / 395 | 522 | True HEPA + carbon, Filter A 115115, HEPA 12 months, carbon 3 months | Not in dataset | Electronic |
| Levoit EverestAir-P | 354 / 373 / 431 | 549 | HEPA + carbon, LRF-E551-WUS, about 12-15 months | Not listed | Mechanical |
| Coway Airmega 400 | 376 / 384 / 409 (ENERGY STAR) | 583 (ENERGY STAR) | Max2 HEPA + carbon, part not printed, 6-12 months | Certified, 366 kWh/yr | Mechanical |
| Levoit Core 600S-P | 391 / 398 / 436 | 606 | HEPA + carbon, LRF-C601-WUS, interval not printed | Certified, 387 kWh/yr | Mechanical (WUS) or Electronic (WUSR) |
| Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max | 435 / 453 / 450 | 674 | Particle + carbon, F2MAX, up to 9 months | Most Efficient, 259 kWh/yr | Electronic |
| Coway Airmega 450 | 443 / 445 / 450 (ENERGY STAR) | 687 (ENERGY STAR) | Max2 HEPA + carbon, part not printed, 12 months | Certified, 389 kWh/yr | Mechanical |

The Airmega 400 is the one conflict in the table: Coway's own page prints a smoke CADR of
328, while the ENERGY STAR dataset prints 376 and 583 sq ft for the same AP-2015F. The
table carries the certifier's figure and flags it. "True HEPA" and "HEPA" are maker wording,
not a certification; the
[True HEPA versus HEPA-type guide](/air/guides/true-hepa-vs-hepa-type-filter/) explains what
each label does and does not promise.

## Levoit Core 600S-P: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the room is 606 sq ft or smaller and ENERGY STAR matters. AHAM's directory prints
smoke, dust and pollen CADR of 391, 398 and 436 and a suggested room size of 606 sq ft;
the ENERGY STAR dataset lists it at 387 kWh per year. Levoit prints 49 W, 26 to 55 dB and a
2-year limited warranty.

The flaw is the CARB listing, which splits by model code: LAP-C601S-WUS is Mechanical
(G-21-477) and LAP-C601S-WUSR is Electronic (G-21-516). The Amazon listing does not say
which code ships, so a buyer who needs the Mechanical listing has to read the carton.

The filter is the LRF-C601-WUS, and Levoit's filter page prints no month interval; the
[replacement filter by model page](/air/parts/air-purifier-replacement-filter-by-model/)
carries the interval from the manual. Skip it over 606 sq ft: the Blueair and the Coway
below go further.

## Blueair Blue Pure 211i Max: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the room runs to 674 sq ft and running cost decides. AHAM's directory prints CADR
of 435 smoke, 453 dust and 450 pollen and 674 sq ft, Blueair prints 46 W and 23 to 53 dB,
and the ENERGY STAR dataset lists it at 259 kWh per year with a Most Efficient flag, the
only one in this table. The
[running cost calculator](/air/calculators/air-purifier-running-cost-filter-and-electricity/)
turns that 46 W and a 9-month filter into a yearly figure.

The flaw is the CARB listing: model 3613111100 is Electronic (G-23-076), while Blueair's
page never uses the word ionizer. The
[ozone and ionizer guide](/air/guides/ozone-air-purifier-ionizer-carb-certified/) explains
what the two CARB types mean. The ENERGY STAR dataset also prints a smoke CADR of 443 and
687 sq ft against AHAM's 435 and 674; this page uses AHAM's lower figure.

The filter is the F2MAX, up to 9 months, and the warranty is 1 year, extendable to 3 on
registration. Skip it if you want a filtration-only listing: the Coway Airmega 450 is the
larger Mechanical unit.

## Coway Airmega 450: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the room runs to 687 sq ft and a CARB Mechanical listing (G-25-004) is the
requirement. The ENERGY STAR dataset prints 687 sq ft, CADR 443, 445 and 450 and 389 kWh
per year; Coway's page prints 439 smoke, 72 W and 23.6 to 57.7 dB(A). The Beige listing is
the one linked.

The flaw is the missing AHAM entry: ahamdir.com returned no Coway rows, so the CADR is the
certifier's and the maker's, not AHAM-verified. Coway's filter page prints a 12-month filter
life but no part number, and the product page prints no warranty. At 72 W it draws the most
of any pick here. Skip it if AHAM verification is the reason to buy.

## Winix 5510 and Levoit Vital 200S-P: buy them or skip them?

Buy the Winix 5510 if the room is under 392
sq ft and the budget is the smallest here. Winix prints CADR 253 smoke, 252 dust and 247
pollen, AHAM Verified 392 sq ft, 23.5 dB on the lowest speed, a 2-year warranty and Filter Q,
part 1712-0123-00, with a 12-month carbon filter.

The flaw is the CARB listing: the 5510 is Electronic (G-24-234), and Winix's page does not
say whether the PlasmaWave feature can be switched off. Winix prints no wattage, and the unit is not
in the ENERGY STAR dataset.

Buy the Vital 200S-P if you want a Mechanical
listing (G-22-455) at the same room size. AHAM prints CADR 250, 254 and 289 and 388 sq ft;
Levoit prints 50 W, 23 to 54 dB, a 2-year limited warranty and a filter designed to last
6 to 12 months.

The flaw is the filter page: it prints no part number, so the replacement is bought by model
name. Skip both at 400 sq ft and above: the 2/3 rule needs a smoke CADR of 267 there, and
neither reaches it.

## Levoit EverestAir-P: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the room is dusty and the filter interval decides. AHAM's directory prints CADR
354, 373 and 431 and 549 sq ft. Levoit prints 70 W, 24 to 56 dB, a 2-year limited
warranty, a washable pre-filter cleaned every 2 to 4 weeks and a main filter, LRF-E551-WUS,
lasting about 12 to 15 months, the longest Levoit interval in this table. CARB lists it as
Mechanical (G-22-254).

The flaw is the price against the Core 600S-P: it covers 57 sq ft less, draws 21 W more and
is not in the ENERGY STAR dataset. Skip it unless the washable pre-filter is the reason.

**Measure the whole connected floor before you buy**

Do not order any of these until length times width of every space the air reaches is known.
AHAM's rule puts the smoke CADR at two-thirds of that figure, so a 20 by 30 ft open plan
(600 sq ft) needs 400 or more, which rules out six of the ten units above. Prices and any
discount show on the cards; the
[air purifier deal check](/air/guides/air-purifier-black-friday-prime-day-deal-check/)
explains how to read a sale against the CADR.

## What about 1,000 sq ft?

No single portable in the US AHAM directory covers it. The 2/3 rule asks for a smoke CADR
of about 667, and the largest listing found on 9 October 2026 is the Winix Tower XQ at 461
and 714 sq ft. The ENERGY STAR sizing chart runs from 130 for 200 sq ft to 390 for 600 sq ft.

Two units are the arithmetic answer: two Core 600S-P at 391 each sum to 782, two Airmega 450
at 443 each to 886. Place them at opposite ends of the space. That is the 2/3 rule applied,
not a tested result.

## What goes wrong?

**The room was sized off the carton.** Levoit's 2909 sq ft for the Core 600S-P is 4.8 times
its AHAM figure of 606, and Coway's 3,285 sq ft for the Airmega 450 is the one-air-change
number. Divide by about five first.

**The model code on the box is not the one on the list.** The Core 600S-P's WUS and WUSR
codes carry different CARB types, and the Airmega 400's maker page and ENERGY STAR row
disagree on CADR. Compare the code, not the name.

**The filter interval was assumed.** Winix 12 months, Blueair up to 9, Levoit 6 to 12 or
12 to 15, Coway 12: a year of filters is a cost the card does not show.

## The picks

## Frequently asked questions

### What CADR does a 1,000 sq ft open plan need?

AHAM's rule is a smoke CADR of at least two-thirds of the floor area, so 1,000 sq ft needs about 667. No portable unit in the US AHAM directory read on 2026-10-09 reaches that; the largest listed is the Winix Tower XQ at smoke CADR 461 and 714 sq ft. Two units whose smoke CADRs add to 667 or more, placed at opposite ends, is the arithmetic answer.

### Why does the carton say 2,933 sq ft when AHAM says 606?

Both numbers describe the Levoit Core 600S-P. Levoit's page prints 2909 sq ft at one air change per hour and 606 sq ft at 4.8 air changes per hour. AHAM's Verifide seal uses 4.8 ACH, and its 2026 white paper gives the formula: room size in sq ft equals smoke CADR times 1.55. Divide a carton figure by about five before comparing it.

### Which large-room purifiers are ENERGY STAR certified?

The ENERGY STAR Certified Room Air Cleaners dataset, read on 2026-10-09, lists the Levoit Core 600S-P at 387 kWh per year, the Blueair 211i Max at 259 kWh per year with a Most Efficient flag, the Blueair 311i Max at 193, the Coway Airmega 450 at 389 and the Airmega 400 at 366. It has no row for the Vital 200S-P, EverestAir-P, Winix 5510, Winix 9800 or Honeywell HPA304.

### Is the Coway Airmega 450 AHAM verified?

Not in the US directory read on 2026-10-09: ahamdir.com returned no Coway or Airmega rows among its 58 brands. The Airmega 450 does appear in the ENERGY STAR dataset at 687 sq ft and smoke CADR 443, and Coway's own page prints 439. The figures exist, but they come from ENERGY STAR and the maker, not from an AHAM Verifide listing.

### Does CARB Mechanical mean no ionizer?

CARB lists every certified air cleaner as Mechanical or Electronic. On this page the Levoit Vital 200S-P, EverestAir-P, Coway Airmega 450 and 400 and Honeywell HPA304 are listed Mechanical. The Core 600S-P has two codes: LAP-C601S-WUS is Mechanical and LAP-C601S-WUSR is Electronic, and the Amazon listing does not say which one ships. Check the code on the carton.
