Dehumidifier Black Friday and Prime Day deal check: the 65 F pint rating, the lowest operating temperature and the kWh figure decide whether the discount is on the right unit

Prime Big Deal Days run October 6-7, 2026; Black Friday is November 27. An old-test 70 pint label is 40 to 45 pints under the 2019 DOE test. Check IEF first.

Short answer

Buy a dehumidifier on Prime Big Deal Days (October 6-7, 2026, per Amazon) or on Black Friday (November 27, 2026, the day after Thanksgiving) only if two numbers fit your room: the pints-per-day figure tested at 65 F and 60 % relative humidity under the DOE procedure in 10 CFR 430 Appendix X1, and the maker’s lowest operating temperature. The trap is the label. ENERGY STAR’s correlation table pairs an old-test 70 pint unit with 40 to 45 pints under the 2019 test, so a discounted “70 pint” box from old stock is a smaller machine than a current 50. Running cost outlives the sale: ENERGY STAR lists the Midea Cube MAD50PS1QWT-A at 515 kWh a year, which at the EIA’s July 2026 residential average of 18.31 cents per kWh is about $94 a year. Amazon’s strike-through is a List Price or a 90-day median, so the denominator, not the percentage, tells you what the deal is worth.

The picks

  1. A basement with no floor drain, water has to be lifted to a sink or window

Midea Cube 50 pint with pump, MAD50PS1QWT-A

ENERGY STAR dataset: 49.67 pints/day per Appendix X1, IEF 2.01 L/kWh, 515 kWh/yr. Midea user guide: works between 41 F and 95 F, max pump height 14 ft, one year limited warranty

  2. A floor drain or a lower sink within hose reach, so the pump is not needed

Midea Cube 50 pint, no pump, MAD50S1QWT-A

ENERGY STAR dataset: 49.67 pints/day per Appendix X1, IEF 2.01 L/kWh, 515 kWh/yr. Same Midea user guide as the pump model: 41 F to 95 F, one year limited warranty

  3. Wants a pump at the lower price tier and accepts a 90 F ceiling

Midea 50 pint EasyDry with pump, MAD50P1AWS-A

ENERGY STAR dataset: 49.74 pints/day per Appendix X1, IEF 2.01 L/kWh, 525 kWh/yr. Midea manual: 41 F to 90 F, auto defrost, 1/4 in OD pump hose supplied, one year full warranty; no pump lift height printed

  4. Gravity drain, the fewest parts to fail, where the drain sits below the unit

Midea 50 pint EasyDry, gravity drain, MAD50C1AWS-A

ENERGY STAR dataset: 49.74 pints/day per Appendix X1, IEF 2.01 L/kWh, 525 kWh/yr. Midea manual: 41 F to 90 F, auto defrost, continuous drain on a 5/16 in ID hose, one year full warranty

Do not buy a dehumidifier because the price dropped overnight; buy it because its 65 F rating and its operating floor fit your damp room, and if they do not, the discount is on the wrong unit.

Is the discount real?

Amazon says the List Price is a validated manufacturer’s suggested retail price found on Amazon and at other retailers, and the Typical or “Was” Price is the median price paid on Amazon in the last 90 days, excluding limited-time deals. Savings are computed against one of those two.

The FTC’s 16 CFR 233.1 accepts a former price when it was the actual, bona fide price offered to the public on a regular basis for a reasonably substantial period. The denominator decides the percentage: the same saving looks larger against a List Price nobody paid lately than against the 90-day median.

Amazon confirms Prime Big Deal Days 2026 for October 6-7, 48 hours of deals for Prime members. Black Friday is November 27, 2026, the day after the OPM federal holiday schedule’s Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26. No Amazon page opened for this guide announced a Black Friday window.

Which spec does a sale tempt you to skip?

The test condition behind the pint figure. Appendix X1 to 10 CFR 430 Subpart B tests a portable dehumidifier at 65 F plus or minus 2 F and 60 % plus or minus 2 % relative humidity. ENERGY STAR explains that this replaced an 80 F test in June 2019 “to more accurately reflect expected performance in a basement setting”, and that a unit tested the new way “will likely report a smaller capacity”. Old stock still carries the left column of ENERGY STAR’s rough correlation.

Old rating (through 2019)Approximate current rating (2020 test)
30 pints/day20 pints/day
40 pints/day25 pints/day
50 pints/day30 pints/day
60 pints/day35 pints/day
70 pints/day40 to 45 pints/day
90 pints/day55 pints/day

A second form of the trap is a capacity stated at a non-DOE condition: hOmeLabs sells its 50 pint pump unit as “MAX 120 Pint at 95°F, 90% RH” with no ENERGY STAR mention on its product page. If the condition is missing beside the pints, the number is unknown.

Integrated energy factor, or IEF, is litres of water removed per kilowatt-hour, including standby and off-mode energy in ENERGY STAR’s definition. Version 6.0, effective October 1, 2025, requires at least 1.70 L/kWh at or under 25 pints/day, 2.01 L/kWh from 25.01 to 50 pints/day and 3.30 L/kWh at 50 pints/day and above.

Will it run in the room you have?

Midea’s Cube user guide prints a working environment of 41 F to 95 F and the EasyDry manual 41 F to 90 F; both say the coils can frost below 41 F. ENERGY STAR adds that frost can form on the condensing coils below 65 F, which is why auto defrost matters in a basement or garage that runs cooler than the floor above.

If the space drops below the maker’s printed floor, no discount makes the unit the right one. Size the room with the dehumidifier size calculator; the capacity ratings guide explains the three rating systems.

What does it cost to run after the sale?

Annual cost = kWh per year x your rate in cents per kWh / 100. Where the maker prints watts instead, watts / 1000 x hours per day x days per year gives the kWh. The EIA’s Electric Power Monthly (September 24, 2026 release) puts the US average residential price at 18.31 cents per kWh for July 2026, up from 17.45 cents a year earlier; the rate on your bill replaces it.

ModelENERGY STAR kWh/yrx 18.31 centsExample annual cost
Midea Cube MAD50PS1QWT-A or MAD50S1QWT-A515515 x 0.1831about $94
Midea EasyDry MAD50P1AWS-A or MAD50C1AWS-A525525 x 0.1831about $96

Has the unit been recalled?

CPSC recall 23-262 (August 16, 2023) covers about 1.56 million Gree-made dehumidifiers of 25 to 70 pints sold 2011 through 2014 under Kenmore, GE, SoleusAir, Norpole and Seabreeze, with a refund and at least 23 fires reported. Recall 21-174 (August 4, 2021) covers about 2 million New Widetech units made before September 1, 2017 under 20 brands including Honeywell and Whirlpool, with a pro-rated refund and 107 incidents, no injuries.

CPSC’s dehumidifier recall page showed nothing for the 2025-26 Midea models here. A recalled unit resurfaces as a refurbished or old-stock deal: check the date code before the price.

Before you click the deal

Do not buy a dehumidifier until you have two numbers: the room’s relative humidity from a hygrometer, which picks the pints row in the size calculator, and the coldest temperature the space reaches, which has to sit above the maker’s printed floor.

Which units are worth buying on sale?

The four picks are the Midea units from the basement dehumidifier review, re-checked in stock on October 2, 2026; their ENERGY STAR and manual figures sit on each card. Only the Cube user guide prints a pump height, 14 ft. The price and any saving on each card are Amazon’s live figures with Amazon’s time stamp; this page states neither. The Frigidaire FHDP5033Y1 from the same review was not in plain stock when checked and is left off. Choose on the drain, not the discount.

What about the UK and Europe?

The DOE test and ENERGY STAR figures above are US procedures, so do not carry them over to a UK or EU listing: start from the UK and Europe dehumidifier review or the Japan dehumidifier review.

What should you do first?

  1. Read the room’s humidity with a hygrometer and note its coldest temperature.
  2. Keep only units rated “per Appendix X1” or on ENERGY STAR’s list.
  3. Compare IEF and kWh/yr, and run the cost formula with your own rate.
  4. Check any refurbished or old-stock deal’s date code against CPSC.
  5. Note which reference price the saving is measured against, then decide.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 70 pint dehumidifier on sale bigger than a current 50 pint model?

Usually not. ENERGY STAR explains that since June 2019 portable dehumidifiers are tested at 65 F instead of 80 F, and its correlation table pairs an old 70 pint rating with about 40 to 45 pints under the current test. A current 50 pint unit tested at 65 F removes more water in a cool basement than an old-stock 70 pint label suggests.

What does the struck-through price on an Amazon dehumidifier listing mean?

Amazon says the List Price is a validated manufacturer's suggested retail price found on Amazon and at other retailers, and the Typical or Was Price is the median price paid on Amazon in the last 90 days, excluding limited-time deals. The saving percentage is computed against one of those, so the reference price decides how large the percentage looks.

How much does a 50 pint dehumidifier cost to run per year?

Multiply the maker's or ENERGY STAR's annual kWh figure by your electricity rate. ENERGY STAR lists the Midea Cube MAD50PS1QWT-A at 515 kWh a year; at the EIA's July 2026 US residential average of 18.31 cents per kWh that is about $94 a year. The EasyDry models at 525 kWh come to about $96 at the same rate.

Were any dehumidifiers recalled that might show up as a deal?

CPSC recall 23-262 (August 16, 2023) covers about 1.56 million Gree-made units sold 2011 through 2014 under Kenmore, GE, SoleusAir, Norpole and Seabreeze, and recall 21-174 (August 4, 2021) covers about 2 million New Widetech units made before September 1, 2017 under 20 brands. Both offer a refund. No recall of the 2025-26 Midea models on this page appeared on CPSC's dehumidifier page.

Will a dehumidifier bought on sale work in a cold garage?

Read the maker's operating range before the price. Midea's Cube user guide prints 41 F to 95 F and its EasyDry manual 41 F to 90 F, and both say coils can frost below 41 F. ENERGY STAR adds that frost can form on condensing coils below 65 F, so a unit with auto defrost matters in any space that runs cooler than a living room.

Answer
A dehumidifier deal is worth taking only if its pints-per-day figure was tested at 65 F and 60 % RH under 10 CFR 430 Appendix X1 and its maker-printed operating floor (41 F on every Midea unit here) matches the room. ENERGY STAR’s table pairs an old-test 70 pint label with 40 to 45 pints today. Running cost is kWh/yr times the rate: 515 kWh at 18.31 cents is about $94 a year.
Basis
The DOE test condition in 10 CFR 430 Subpart B Appendix X1, ENERGY STAR’s 2019 test-change correlation table and Version 6.0 IEF floors, each maker’s printed operating range, Amazon’s published definitions of List Price and Typical Price, 16 CFR 233.1 on former-price comparisons, the EIA average residential electricity price, and CPSC recall notices.
Assumptions
  • Portable, plug-in units bought in the US store during Prime Big Deal Days (October 6-7, 2026) or the Black Friday period; the slug carries no year and the dates are updated in the copy
  • The price and any saving shown on each pick card are Amazon’s live figures with Amazon’s time stamp; this page states neither
  • Running cost uses ENERGY STAR’s annual kWh figure for each certified model and the EIA national average rate as an example input; a local tariff replaces it
Method
OwnerSpec compared published figures only: ENERGY STAR’s certified dehumidifier dataset, Midea’s user guide and manual PDFs, ENERGY STAR, DOE, FTC, EIA, OPM, Amazon and CPSC pages, all opened on 2026-10-02, and confirmed each pick in stock on Amazon the same day. It did not run, meter or test any unit and it did not track any listing’s price history.
