The models were compared on the litres per day each maker prints and the temperature and

Extraction rates are grouped by test condition and never converted. The Trotec TTK 71 E
manual prints its power as 0.42 W, an evident misprint, so its wattage is left blank.
Blaupunkt's ADH601 was not opened on a maker page and is left out.

## Why can a 20 L label mean three different things?

A dehumidifier's rated extraction is measured in a chamber at one temperature and one
relative humidity, and each maker picks its own. Midea Germany prints 20 L per 24 h at 30 C
and 80 % RH. Inventor prints 20 L per 24 h at 26.7 C and 60 % RH. Pro Breeze prints "20 L"
with no condition at all, on both its UK and EU pages.

Meaco is the maker that prints a table. Its Arete One 20L extracts 14.02 L/day at 20 C and
80 % RH, 8.5 L at 20 C and 60 %, and 3.4 L at 10 C and 60 %. The same machine, three numbers,
and the lowest one is the closest to an autumn bedroom.

Only one like-for-like pair exists in this research. At 20 C and 60 % RH, Meaco's Arete One
20L compressor prints 8.5 L/day and its DD8L Zambezi desiccant prints 8.3 L/day (Meaco prints 8.0 to 8.3 on fans 2 and 3).
At 10 C and 60 %, the Zambezi holds 7.5 L/day and the Arete One drops to 3.4 L/day.

## MeacoDry Arete One 20L: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the room is heated and the job is autumn condensation plus a clothes airer.
Meaco describes the Arete One as "optimised for your life and the British weather", and its
page prints the whole extraction table rather than one headline: 216 W at 20 C and 60 % RH
for 8.5 L/day, with a 4.8 L tank, 38 and 40 dB(A), a Laundry Mode, a 12.5 mm garden-hose
drain and a 5-year warranty.

The flaw is the cold. Meaco's own table shows the same unit at 3.4 L/day at 10 C and 60 %,
and its operating range starts at 5 C. Skip it for an unheated garage, a conservatory in
January or a boat: that is the Zambezi's job, and Meaco says so in its own guidance.

## Meaco DD8L Zambezi: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the room sits near or below 10 C. Meaco's page prints 7.5 L/day at 10 C and 60 %
RH on fan 3, an operating range of 1 C to 37 C, a Laundry+ mode and a 3 L tank; the manual
adds that the outgoing air is 10 to 12 C warmer than the intake and that the 1 C minimum
applies at 40 % RH. The manual also prints BS 1363 13 A plug wiring instructions, which marks
it as the UK-market unit.

The flaw is the electricity. The same page prints 351 W on fan 1 and 661 W on fan 3, against
the Arete One's 179 to 225 W. Meaco's blog says it plainly: "desiccants are more expensive to
run", around 330 W at 20 C and 60 % against 150 to 260 W for a compressor. Skip it for a
heated living room, where the compressor gives the same 8 L for a third of the watts.

## Ebac 2650e: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if one unit has to cover a whole house and the watt figure matters more than the
litres figure. Ebac's page prints a maximum of 190 W, the lowest of any model here, a 3.5 L
tank, an operating range of 3 C to 35 C, 44 dBA, laundry drying, intelligent defrost and a
4-year warranty when bought direct, and says it suits homes of 3 to 4 bedrooms up to
180 m2.

The flaw is what Ebac does not print. Its page carries no litres-per-day figure, no test
condition and no mains voltage, so the 2650e cannot be placed in the extraction comparison
above. Retail listings quote a number, but a retailer is not the maker. Skip it if you want the
extraction rate in writing before you pay.

## De'Longhi, Midea and the 30 C 80 % labels

De'Longhi's UK page for the Tasciugo AriaDry Multi DEXD216RF prints 16 L/day at 32 C and
80 % RH, 285 W, 40 dBA, 125 m3/h, a clothes-drying function, a continuous-drain pipe in the
box and a 2-year warranty. It prints no operating temperature range, and the DEX216F and
DEXD216F code variants exist but their pages did not load, so buy the code on the box.

Midea Germany's page for the DF-20DEN7-WF prints 20 L per 24 h at 30 C and 80 % RH, 290 W
rated and 360 W maximum, a 3 L tank, 47.5, 45 and 42 dB(A) across its three speeds and a
5 C to 32 C range. It prints no laundry mode and no warranty term.

Neither label is wrong, and neither is a British room in October. Read both as a ceiling:
Meaco's own table shows how far a 20 L unit's output falls between 20 C 80 % and 20 C 60 %.

## EcoAir DD1 Simple MK3: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the space is small and cold. EcoAir prints 7.5 L/day at 20 C and 60 % RH, 300 W
on low and 580 W on high, a 1 C to 35 C range, 34 and 47 dB(A), a laundry mode, a hose drain
option and a 3-year warranty on 220-240 V 50 Hz.

The flaw is the 2 L tank, the smallest here: at the rated 7.5 L/day it fills in about six
hours, so a continuous-drain hose or a nearby sink decides whether it is practical. Skip it for a whole
house.

**Size the room before you pick a type**

Do not buy any of these until two numbers are known: the room's floor area and the
temperature it actually sits at in November. The [dehumidifier size calculator](/plumbing/calculators/dehumidifier-size-calculator/)
turns the first into a capacity band, and the second decides compressor or desiccant on
Meaco's 10 to 15 C rule. If the room reads under 10 C, the 5-year warranty on the Arete One
does not help you; if it reads 20 C, the Zambezi's 661 W is money spent for nothing.

## What goes wrong?

**The wrong type for the temperature.** Meaco's guidance is a desiccant below 10 C, either a
desiccant or a 20 L or 25 L compressor between 10 and 15 C, and any type above 15 C. Its second post admits the old threshold, which it put at 16 C, has been
"clouded" by newer compressor designs that extract more at 15 C on around a third of the
energy. Below 10 C the desiccant still wins on litres.

**The fan is dead, not the air.** GOV.UK's damp and mould guidance says moisture from
showering, drying laundry and cooking builds up if it cannot be removed, asks for a kitchen
extractor linked to the outside and bathroom fans that are "fully operational", and never
mentions a dehumidifier. A unit bought to fight a broken fan runs all winter against a fault
that costs less to fix.

**The tank fills at 3 a.m.** Every unit here stops when the tank is full. The Zambezi's 3 L,
the DD1's 2 L and the Midea's 3 L are overnight tanks at best; the continuous drain is the
answer, and De'Longhi and Pro Breeze say the hose or pipe is in the box. Ebac sells its permanent
drain kit separately and Meaco's Zambezi ships without a hose.

**Laundry mode on a warm room.** Meaco's blog says a desiccant's warmer, larger airflow
gives it "that extra edge" on washing, but also that both types are good at it. In a room
already at 20 C the Arete One's Laundry Mode runs on 216 W rather than the Zambezi's 661 W.
