Klein 53016 drum auger: buy it or skip it?
Buy it if one sink, tub or shower is slow and you can reach the trap or the cleanout. Klein’s page lists a 0.25 in (6.35 mm) steel coil cable, 25 ft long, in a nylon drum, with a manual handle that also locks into a drill chuck. It is a branch line tool, not a main line tool.
The flaw is that Klein’s page prints a minimum pipe size of 1/4 in and no maximum. For a rated range you have to look at General Pipe Cleaners, whose D-25 Handy page says 1-1/4 in to 3 in drain lines for the same cable class. Read the Klein figure as the drum working in small lines, not as a claim about big ones.
Skip it for a toilet. Neither Klein’s 53016 page nor any other drum auger page read this session lists a bowl guard, and DrainX’s drum auger page says outright that the snake may damage the porcelain.
Klein 53017 toilet auger: buy it or skip it?
Buy it if a plunger has failed on a toilet. Klein’s page lists a 0.5 in (12.7 mm) cable, 3 ft long, in a steel tube with a protective boot that “guards toilet from marring and scratching”, and a quick-release handle that switches between hand and drill operation.
The flaw is the reach. Three feet clears the trapway and the closet bend and stops. If the cable runs its full length and the toilet still backs up, the blockage is downstream and the job has left this page.

That is a gap this page states rather than fills. The RIDGID Kwik-Spin the brief named is out of stock at Amazon as of the same date and is not listed.
Buy the Cobra 40030 if you want the lowest-cost toilet auger from a named brand. Its Amazon title reads 3/8 in by 3 ft, which matches the DrainX and General Standard class, but Cobra’s own page would not load this session, so whether its guard is plastic or vinyl is not confirmed here.
Skip both if you are choosing on a printed spec. The Klein pages state cable diameter, length and guard in millimetres and inches; these two listings state a title.

Buy it for a bathroom sink, tub or shower that has slowed from hair. Drain Weasel’s site describes an 18 inch wand with patented micro-hooks that lock onto hair and remove it, for sinks, showers and tubs, and the kit listed here ships five wands on one reusable handle. FlexiSnake and Drain Weasel are the same product line: the brand page carries a “FlexiSnake Products” section and names FlexiSnake in its footer.
The flaw is that a wand is not a cable. It pulls what it can hook within 18 inches of the opening and cannot break or push a blockage further down the trap arm.
Skip it for a kitchen sink or a toilet. Grease and food do not hook, and the wand has no guard or reach for a bowl.
Pull the stopper before you buy anything
Do not order an auger until you have lifted the pop-up stopper or the tub strainer and looked. A hair mat sits on the stopper’s linkage more often than it sits in the pipe, and it comes out with a bent coat hanger or a wand. The slow drain guide puts that step, the plunger and the trap clean-out in order, and it names the point at which a cable is the next step and the point at which a licensed plumber is.

The cable runs out. Klein’s 53016 is 25 ft, the D-25 Handy holds up to 50 ft of 1/4 in cable, and a toilet auger is 3 ft. If the full length pays out without resistance and the drain is still slow, the blockage is beyond the tool and the next call is to a drain service.
The wand comes up clean. Drain Weasel’s 18 in wand hooks hair near the opening. A clean wand and a still-slow drain means the blockage is in the trap arm, and the drum auger is the next step, not a second wand.
