Where is the refrigerator model number printed?
Only when the cartridge is gone. Each maker publishes its own locator, and they disagree on the side, so use the row for your brand.

GE adds two checks worth having. Its model number always begins and ends with a letter, which rules out most of what people copy off a sticker, and some newer model and serial tags carry a QR code that opens the product’s own page.
How do you read a supersession?
A superseded number means the old code is correct and the part sold under it has been renamed. Three patterns cover most of it.
GE’s XWFE product page states that GE XWFE water filters have replaced the XWF water filters, so a refrigerator that calls for an XWF takes an XWFE. That page returned HTTP 403 to a direct fetch on 21 September 2026 and is quoted as the GE XWF and XWFE page recorded it from a browser read. The same story runs on GE’s French-door line, where the RPWFE superseded the chip-free RPWF.
everydrop numbers are not a supersession at all: the digit and the EDR string are two names for one cartridge, so Filter 1 is EDR1RXD1 and Filter 3 is EDR3RXD1. Match the digit and the part follows.
Kenmore is the one that needs a translation rather than a rename. Kenmore 46-9081 and 46-9083 cross to everydrop cartridges, which is why the Kenmore page exists and why 46-9930 is still an open question on it.
Do not order until the code matches
A cartridge that is one digit out will not seat, and a returned filter is a week without filtered water. Read the code off the old cartridge, open the page for it above, and buy from that page instead of from a search result: the cross-fit tables there say which alternatives carry a standard number and which only claim one.
How do you avoid a counterfeit cartridge?
Counterfeits are covered in detail where they bite, on the individual cartridge pages, because each maker describes different tells. GE’s four-sign counterfeit list is on the MWF and RPWFE pages, and the five serial numbers Samsung Ireland names on fake filters are on the DA29-00020B page. Read the one for your brand before buying a genuine cartridge from a marketplace seller.
What should you do first?
- Pull the old cartridge and read the code moulded into its body or printed on its label.
- Find that code in the routing table above and open the cartridge page it points to.
- If the cartridge is gone, find the model number using your brand’s row. GE owners can then run it through GE’s water filter finder.
- Check for a supersession before you order: an XWF refrigerator buys an XWFE, and an everydrop digit buys the matching EDR part.
- If nothing matches, the refrigerator may take a family OwnerSpec does not cover yet, such as the GE MSWF or GSWF.
Frequently asked questions
Why will no manufacturer just publish a list of refrigerators and their filters?
GE Appliances is the clearest case: its replacement filter page shows five genuine families (XWFE, RPWFE, MWF, MSWF and GSWF), prints no model-number table, and says its water filter finder will guide you to the right filter for your refrigerator. Whirlpool's and LG's own support pages cover only where the model number label sits, not which cartridge fits.
Do I need the refrigerator model number at all if I still have the old cartridge?
No. The code moulded into the old cartridge names the part directly, which is one step instead of two. The model number matters when the cartridge is missing, when a previous owner fitted the wrong one, or when a supersession means the number on the old cartridge is no longer sold under that name.
My GE refrigerator calls for an XWF and I can only find XWFE. Is that the right part?

What is the difference between an everydrop Filter number and an EDR part number?
They are two names for the same cartridge. everydrop Filter 1 is the part number EDR1RXD1, Filter 3 is EDR3RXD1, and so on. The marketing name is the digit; the EDR string is what a parts catalogue lists. OwnerSpec's everydrop cartridge pages list both names for each filter, with the maker document behind them.
Where is the model number on a Samsung refrigerator?
Samsung's support page states the product numbers are printed on a label inside the refrigerator on the left-hand side, with a second label attached to the outside at the bottom left-hand side. Samsung gives the same pairing for side by side, French door, top freezer and bottom mount, with the interior label in the fresh food compartment.
