## Short answer

The GE GSWF is a twist-and-lock cartridge for select GE top-freezer and bottom-freezer refrigerators, seated in the back upper right corner of the refrigerator compartment per GE's installation sheet, and GE's product page says the model is no longer being manufactured, with no successor part printed. GE's interval is 6 months on every document reached. GE's gallon figure is not consistent: 300 gallons on the 2019 Performance Data Sheet and 750 gallons on GE's live spec page, so go by the 6 months and a slowing dispenser. The Performance Data Sheet says the GSWF is certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 42 and 53, at 0.5 gpm and 40 to 120 psi. NSF's own database lists no GE row under trade name GSWF, only cross-fits: AQUA CREST AQF-GSWF-D and Waterdrop WDP-GSWF hold NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 at 300 gallons, while the plain AQF-GSWF and WD-GSWF hold 42 only. The suffix printed on the box decides the standard.

## Fact sheet

- **Answer:** The GE GSWF is a twist-and-lock cartridge for select GE top-freezer and bottom-freezer refrigerators, replaced every 6 months per GE, and GE's product page says it is no longer being manufactured. GE's capacity conflicts: 300 gallons on the 2019 Performance Data Sheet, 750 gallons on the live spec page. NSF lists no GE row under GSWF; AQUA CREST AQF-GSWF-D and Waterdrop WDP-GSWF hold NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 at 300 gallons and 0.5 gpm.
- **Applies to:** GSWF; Number on the old cartridge: GSWF, GSWF3PK, GSWFDS or a reseller cross-reference such as Kenmore 46-9914
- **Compatibility basis:** GE's GSWF installation sheet and Performance Data Sheet (form 49-6000022 Rev. 0 04-19), GE's GSWF product and spec pages, and NSF International's Drinking Water Treatment Units listings for trade name GSWF
- **Assumptions:** GE prints no model-number list for the GSWF on any page reached: only 'select GE top-freezer and bottom-freezer refrigerators' and a filter-finder tool, so no refrigerator model series is named here.; GE's documents disagree on capacity, 300 gallons on the Performance Data Sheet and 750 gallons on the live spec page, and no IAPMO R&T certificate page could be opened to settle it, so both figures are printed with their document.; The NSF rows belong to SKU suffixes (AQF-GSWF-D, WDP-GSWF and so on); which suffix a given Amazon pack contains was not confirmed, so the reader is told to match the suffix on the box.
- **Method:** Fit, install, interval, flow, pressure and certifier read from GE's installation sheet and Performance Data Sheet and GE's product and spec pages; cross-fit standards, capacity and flow read from NSF's DWTU listings by trade name; cross-reference part numbers read from AquaCrest's product page and the Amazon listing titles. Every figure is a published document or listing; nothing was tested.

If the code on your old cartridge reads [MWF](/water/parts/ge-mwf-refrigerator-filter/), [XWF or XWFE](/water/parts/ge-xwf-xwfe-refrigerator-filter/) or [RPWFE](/water/parts/ge-rpwfe-refrigerator-filter/), leave now; if it reads GSWF, GE has stopped making the part and the cross-fit's NSF suffix is the whole decision.

## Which GE refrigerators take the GSWF?

GE prints no model-number list for the GSWF. Its product page says select GE top-freezer and bottom-freezer refrigerators, and its replacement-filter page sends buyers to a water filter finder, the same pattern the [by-model guide](/water/guides/refrigerator-water-filter-by-model/) found across GE's genuine families.

The number to trust is moulded on the old cartridge, which GE's installation sheet puts in the back upper right corner of the refrigerator compartment: turn left to remove, a quarter turn clockwise to install, grip blade vertical on a top-freezer, horizontal on a bottom-freezer.

| Number or name | Where it appears | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| GSWF | GE's product page and Performance Data Sheet | The genuine cartridge, 8.375 x 2 x 2 inches per GE's page; no longer manufactured per GE, no GE-branded listing found on Amazon this session |
| GSWF3PK | GE's product page, related accessories | GE's 3-pack of the same cartridge |
| GSWFDS | AquaCrest's compatibility list | A GE pack code the cross-fit maker prints; not seen on a GE page |
| 100749-C, 100810/A, 215C1152P002, 238C2334P001, AP3418061 | AquaCrest's compatibility list | GE parts numbers AquaCrest says the GSWF replaces; cross-fit data, not read from a GE page |
| Kenmore 46-9914, 469914, 9914 | Amazon listing titles for Pureline and Icepure | A reseller cross-reference for the same socket; no GE or Kenmore document reached prints it |

## Is the GSWF rated for 300 gallons or 750 gallons?

GE prints both, and this page does not pick one. The 6 month interval is the figure every GE document agrees on; GE's spec page adds "replace sooner if flow rate noticeably declines".

| GE document | Capacity | Interval | Other figures it prints |
|---|---|---|---|
| Performance Data Sheet, form 49-6000022 Rev. 0, April 2019 | 300 gallons | 6 months | Certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 42 and 53; 0.5 gpm; 40 to 120 psi; 33 to 100 F |
| geappliances.com product page, read 2026-10-10 | 750 gallons (rated capacity 750.0 gal) | 6 months | NSF 42 and 53 "yes"; 0.5 gpm; 40 to 120 psi; no longer manufactured |
| geapplianceparts.com spec page, read 2026-10-10 | 750 gallons | 6 months | "Certified to reduce particulates, chlorine-resistant cysts, lead and 5 other contaminants" |

The Performance Data Sheet is the document that names the certifier, so 300 gallons is the figure on the certification paper. No IAPMO R&T certificate page could be opened and NSF's database has no GE row, so the genuine GSWF's [NSF/ANSI 42 and 53](/water/guides/nsf-ansi-water-filter-standards-explained/) rest on GE's document alone.

## What else fits the GSWF socket, and which NSF row does each hold?

NSF's listing for trade name GSWF, read 2026-10-10, has 6 manufacturers and 44 products, every one aftermarket, on one element, EFF-6023S, rated 300 gallons at 0.5 gpm. The standard depends on the suffix, which the Amazon listings do not print, so match the suffix on the box against the row below.

| Cartridge | NSF/ANSI 42 (chlorine, taste and odor) | NSF/ANSI 53 (cyst, lead, benzene, carbofuran, endrin) | NSF/ANSI 401 | Capacity and flow per NSF |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GE GSWF (genuine) | Per GE's PDS, IAPMO R&T; no NSF row | Per GE's PDS, IAPMO R&T; no NSF row | Not claimed by GE | 300 gallons (PDS) or 750 gallons (GE spec page); 0.5 gpm |
| AQUA CREST AQF-GSWF | Yes | No | No | 300 gallons, 0.5 gpm |
| AQUA CREST AQF-GSWF-P | Yes | Yes | No | 300 gallons, 0.5 gpm |
| AQUA CREST AQF-GSWF-D | Yes | Yes, with mercury | Yes | 300 gallons, 0.5 gpm |
| Waterdrop WD-GSWF | Yes | No | No | 300 gallons, 0.5 gpm |
| Waterdrop WDS-GSWF | Yes | Yes | No | 300 gallons, 0.5 gpm |
| Waterdrop WDP-GSWF | Yes | Yes, with mercury | Yes | 300 gallons, 0.5 gpm |
| Mist, Icepure RWF3000A, Pureline | No row under trade name GSWF | No row | No row | Maker claims only; not linked |

Amazon Basics, Maxblue and Overbest share the same three-suffix pattern in NSF's listing, but no in-stock Amazon listing for them was found. Waterdrop's site has no GSWF product page, so the Waterdrop Plus pack is linked on its NSF family rows alone.

AquaCrest's page claims NSF/ANSI 42 and 372, prints 20 to 100 psi against GE's 40 to 120 psi, and says its cartridge is not sourced by or sponsored by GE. The [OEM versus generic guide](/water/guides/refrigerator-water-filter-oem-vs-generic-nsf/) covers why a listing row beats a logo, and the [refrigerator filter review](/water/reviews/best-refrigerator-water-filter/) ranks the families still in production.

## How often does the GSWF need replacing?

Every 6 months per GE's installation sheet, or earlier if flow to the dispenser or icemaker decreases; on models with an indicator light, orange warns and red means due. After installing, GE says to flush the new cartridge at full flow for 4 gallons, about eight minutes.

Three GE rules complicate the interval:

- The dispenser and icemaker will not operate without a cartridge or GE's filter bypass plug.
- Remove the cartridge when temperatures are expected to drop below 40 F; never install on a hot water supply or above 100 F ambient.
- GE has not qualified non-GE-branded filters for GE and Hotpoint refrigerators, so a cross-fit runs on its maker's and NSF's figures, not GE's.

**Which one to buy**

The genuine GSWF is the only cartridge here with GE's name and an IAPMO R&T attribution, and the one GE has stopped making: no GE-branded listing was found on Amazon, and the unbranded "OEM" listings come with no GE document.

The AQUA CREST 2-pack is the reverse: NSF rows to 42, 53 and 401 at 300 gallons, but by suffix, and the listing does not say whether the pack is AQF-GSWF, -P or -D. Plain AQF-GSWF is [chlorine taste and odor](/water/guides/chlorine-chloramine-city-water/) only; a [lead](/water/guides/lead-in-tap-water-service-line/) row needs the -P or -D on the box.

Read the old cartridge before buying either: the family code decides the purchase.

## The picks

- **AQUA CREST GSWF cross-fit (2-pack)**: GSWF refrigerator, wants an NSF-listed cartridge family (NSF DWTU lists AQF-GSWF to 42, AQF-GSWF-P to 42 and 53, AQF-GSWF-D to 42, 53 and 401, all 300 gallons at 0.5 gpm; match the suffix on the box) Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G4YCF3K/?tag=ownerspec-20
- **Waterdrop Plus GSWF cross-fit (1-pack)**: One cartridge now, Waterdrop's family holds NSF 53 and 401 rows (NSF DWTU lists WD-GSWF to 42, WDS-GSWF to 42 and 53, WDP-GSWF to 42, 53 and 401, all 300 gallons at 0.5 gpm; the Plus pack's suffix is not printed in the listing) Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GABUA8O/?tag=ownerspec-20

## Frequently asked questions

### Which GE refrigerators take the GSWF filter?

GE says only 'select GE top-freezer and bottom-freezer refrigerators' and prints no model-number list on any page reached; it points buyers to its water filter finder instead. GE's installation sheet locates the cartridge in the back upper right corner of the refrigerator compartment with a twist-and-lock fit. The surest check is the code moulded on the old cartridge, not the refrigerator model number.

### Is the GE GSWF rated for 300 gallons or 750 gallons?

GE prints both. The GSWF Performance Data Sheet (form 49-6000022, 2019) states a 300 gallon capacity and is the document that names the certifier. GE's live spec page says the cartridge should be replaced every six months or 750 gallons. No IAPMO certificate page could be opened to settle it, so this page prints both figures and treats 6 months as the firm interval.

### Is the GE GSWF NSF certified?

GE's Performance Data Sheet says the GSWF is certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI Standard 42 and 53. NSF's own Drinking Water Treatment Units database, read 2026-10-10, has no GE or General Electric row under trade name GSWF: every one of its 44 GSWF products is an aftermarket cartridge, so the genuine part's certification rests on GE's document and the IAPMO attribution it prints.

### Is the GE GSWF discontinued, and what replaces it?

GE's product page for the GSWF says the model is no longer being manufactured and shows it as out of stock online and on clearance, and it prints no successor part number. GE's replacement-filter page still lists GSWF among its genuine families next to MSWF, MWF, XWFE and RPWFE. No GE document reached names any of those as the GSWF replacement, so this page does not either.

### Which cross-fit GSWF cartridges are actually in NSF's database?

NSF's listing for trade name GSWF, all on the EFF-6023S element at 300 gallons and 0.5 gpm, carries Waterdrop WDP-GSWF and AQUA CREST AQF-GSWF-D under NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401, Waterdrop WDS-GSWF and AQF-GSWF-P under 42 and 53, and WD-GSWF and AQF-GSWF under 42 only. Mist, Icepure and Pureline have no row under this trade name, whatever their listing titles say.
