Short answer
A shower filter replacement cartridge is matched by the housing model on the label, and every maker in the table below prints the part number and its rated life on its own page. Aquasana AQ-4100 and AQ-4105 take the AQ-4125, rated 10,000 gallons or 6 months. Culligan WSH-C125, HSH-C135 and ISH-100 take the WHR-140, also 10,000 gallons or 6 months. Sprite HO2 and HOB take the HOC at 25,000 gallons or 12 months, and Sprite Slim-Line SL, SL2 and SL3 take the SLC at 10,000 gallons or 6 months. Aquabliss SF100 and SF220 take the SFC100 or SFC220, which fit either housing, at 3 to 6 months with no gallon figure. Berkey’s cartridge is SKU W01BERKEY at 30,000 gallons or 1 year. The spec that decides the reorder date is the gallon rating, not the calendar: Aquasana’s FAQ converts its 10,000 gallons at 2.5 gpm into 4,000 shower minutes, which a household of four can use up in about 100 days.
The picks
AQ-4100, AQ-4100NSH, AQ-4105 or AQ-4105CHR owner
Aquasana AQ-4125
10,000 gallons or 6 months, 2.5 gpm; data sheet says tested to NSF/ANSI 177 by Pace Analytical Labs; in stock on 2026-09-30
WSH-C125, HSH-C135, ISH-100 or any of the seven Culligan housings
Culligan WHR-140
10,000 gallons or 6 months, 1.8 GPM; Culligan names IAPMO R&T and no standard number; in stock on 2026-09-30
Sprite HO, HO2 or HOB owner: the longest rated life in the table
Sprite HOC
25,000 gallons or 12 months, 2.5 GPM; Sprite's sheet says tested according to NSF/ANSI 177, no certifier named; in stock on 2026-09-30
Sprite Slim-Line SL, SL2, SL3, SLB or a Sprite filtered shower head
Sprite SLC
10,000 gallons or 6 months; Sprite's page says NSF certified to standard 177 and names no certifier; in stock on 2026-09-30
Aquabliss SF100 or SF220 owner
Aquabliss SFC100
3 to 6 months per Aquabliss, no gallon figure, no certification stated; fits both housings; in stock on 2026-09-30
Do not reorder on the calendar reminder alone, and do not buy the lookalike “4125” multipack before checking the brand on the box: only the maker’s own part number carries the maker’s gallon rating.
Which cartridge fits which shower filter model?
Each row is read from the maker’s page or PDF in the Sources list. “Certification as printed” is the maker’s wording with nothing added.
| Housing model | Replacement part | Rated life (maker) | Rated flow | Certification as printed | Genuine listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aquasana AQ-4100, AQ-4100NSH, AQ-4105, AQ-4105CHR, and the -E WaterSense versions | AQ-4125 | 10,000 gallons or 6 months | 2.5 gpm (1.75 gpm on -E models) | “Independently tested to NSF/ANSI Standard 177 by Pace Analytical Labs” (data sheet) | AQ-4125 |
| Culligan WSH-C125, HSH-C135, ISH-100, ISH-200C, S-W100-C, S-H200-C, RDSH-C115 | WHR-140 | 10,000 gallons or 6 months | 1.8 GPM | “IAPMO R & T Tested and Certified”; no standard number printed | WHR-140 |
| Sprite HO, HO2, HOB (High Output) | HOC | 25,000 gallons or 12 months | 2.5 GPM (HO2 use and care sheet) | “Tested according to NSF/ANSI 177 for reduction of free chlorine” (HO2 sheet); no certifier named | HOC |
| Sprite SL, SL2, SL3, SLB, and the AE, AC, AT, AG, AK, AM, AR, AV, AW shower heads | SLC | 10,000 gallons or 6 months | Not printed on the SLC page | “NSF certified to standard 177” (Sprite’s page); no certifier named | SLC |
| Aquabliss SF100, SF220 | AB-SFC100 or AB-SFC220, either housing | 3 to 6 months, no gallon figure | Not published | None stated | SFC100 |
| Berkey shower filter | W01BERKEY | 30,000 gallons or 1 year | 2.5 gpm | None stated | Not verified this session |
| Philips AWP1775 | AWP175 | 50,000 L (about 13,200 US gallons); no month figure | 8 L/min | “NSF certified KDF”, the media, not a system listing; Philips USA marks it discontinued | Not verified this session |
Jolie and Waterdrop WD-SF are missing because no maker page naming both the part number and its rated life was read this session.
What does each certification line actually say?
NSF’s own shower filter listing showed 6 products from 5 companies on 2026-09-30, none of them a maker above. Every certification line is therefore the maker’s own wording, and the three makers that print anything say three different things.
| Maker | Names the standard? | Names who tested or certified? | Where it says so |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aquasana | Yes, NSF/ANSI 177 | Yes, Pace Analytical Labs, a test laboratory, not a listing body | AQ-4100/4105 performance data sheet: 1.95 mg/L free chlorine challenge, 50 percent minimum reduction, >91.61 percent result, Pass |
| Sprite | Yes, NSF/ANSI 177 | No | HO2 use and care sheet (“tested according to”), SLC page (“NSF certified to standard 177”) |
| Culligan | No | Yes, IAPMO R&T | WHR-140, HSH-C135 and WSH-C125 pages |
| Aquabliss, Berkey | No | No | Product pages print no certification |
| Philips | No system standard | “NSF certified KDF” describes the media | AWP175 datasheet |
Sprite’s SLC page says “certified” while Sprite is absent from NSF’s listing, so that claim stays Sprite’s, quoted. What 177 covers is on the NSF/ANSI standards guide. It is a free chlorine figure only: Sprite’s HO2 sheet states the system has not been evaluated in the presence of chloramines, and no maker here prints a chloramine figure. The chlorine and chloramine guide shows how to find out which one the utility adds.
Which third-party cartridges fit the same housing?
Two cross-fits are the maker’s own: Aquabliss prints on both pages that AB-SFC100 and AB-SFC220 fit the SF100 and SF220 alike, and Sprite’s SLC page lists its filtered shower heads beside the Slim-Line housings.
Everything else is a seller’s claim. Search returns several “4125” packs without the Aquasana brand, and Aquasana’s replacement instructions say to use only genuine Aquasana filters. The 10,000 gallons and the Pace Analytical result belong to the AQ-4125 alone; a clone with the same number in its title has no maker document behind it. Skip the clone if the test result was the reason for the filter.
How often do they really need replacing?
The makers that print gallons rate the cartridge in gallons first. Aquasana’s FAQ spells the conversion out: 10,000 gallons at 2.5 gpm is 4,000 minutes of showering, 400 ten-minute showers or 267 fifteen-minute showers.
The arithmetic uses only Aquasana’s figures. 10,000 gallons across the 6 month interval, about 182 days, is about 55 gallons a day, or about 22 shower minutes a day at 2.5 gpm for the whole household. Four people at one ten-minute shower each a day use 400 showers in 100 days, so the AQ-4125 is due at about month 3, not month 6.
Culligan’s WHR-140 carries the same 10,000 gallons at 1.8 GPM, about 5,556 running minutes. Sprite’s HOC at 25,000 gallons carries 2.5 times the gallons of the AQ-4125, WHR-140 and SLC.
Reduction also falls before the cartridge is due: Berkey’s knowledge base states its shower filter converts free chlorine at up to 95 percent when new and between 50 and 75 percent by the end of its one year life. The shower head filter review compares the housings these cartridges go into.
Which cartridge to order
The AQ-4125 is the only cartridge here whose maker prints both the standard and who tested it,, though Aquasana is absent from NSF’s listing. The Sprite HOC carries 2.5 times the gallons with the standard named and no certifier.
Read the housing label first: AQ-4100 or AQ-4105 takes AQ-4125 , any of Culligan’s seven housings takes WHR-140 , Sprite HO2 takes HOC , Sprite SL2 takes SLC , and Aquabliss SF100 or SF220 takes SFC100 . All five listings were in stock on 2026-09-30.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Aquasana AQ-4125 fit both the AQ-4100 and the AQ-4105?
Yes. Aquasana's replacement instructions list the AQ-4125 for use with the AQ-4105CHR, AQ-4105, AQ-4100 and AQ-4100NSH, and the performance data sheet gives the same cartridge for the WaterSense AQ-4100-E, AQ-4105-E and AQ-4105CHR-E, which run at 1.75 gpm instead of 2.5 gpm. The rated life is 10,000 gallons or 6 months on every one of them.
Which Culligan shower filters use the WHR-140 cartridge?
Culligan's WHR-140 page names seven housings: ISH-100, ISH-200C, S-W100-C, S-H200-C, WSH-C125, HSH-C135 and RDSH-C115. The cartridge is rated 10,000 gallons or 6 months at 1.8 GPM. Culligan prints 'IAPMO R & T Tested and Certified' on the cartridge and showerhead pages and no NSF/ANSI standard number on any of them.
Is the Sprite HOC the same cartridge as the Sprite SLC?
No. Sprite's product pages give the HOC to the High Output HO, HO2 and HOB housings at up to 25,000 gallons or 12 months, and the SLC to the Slim-Line SL, SL2 and SL3, the SLB and Sprite's named shower head lines at up to 10,000 gallons or 6 months. The HOC carries 2.5 times the gallon rating and does not fit a Slim-Line housing.
Why does a family of four hit the gallon rating before the month rating?
Because the maker rates the cartridge in gallons and only converts to months for a light household. Aquasana's FAQ states 10,000 gallons at 2.5 gpm is 4,000 shower minutes, or 400 ten-minute showers. Four people at one ten-minute shower each per day use 400 showers in 100 days, about 3.3 months, well inside the 6 month figure.
Are any of these shower filter cartridges in NSF's certified listing?
Not on 2026-09-30. NSF's own shower filter listing held 6 products from 5 companies that day and none was Aquasana, Sprite, Culligan, Aquabliss, Berkey or Philips. Aquasana's data sheet names NSF/ANSI 177 and the test lab that ran it, Sprite names the standard without a certifier, and Culligan names a certifier without a standard.

- Assumptions
- Rated life is the maker’s own figure in gallons or months, whichever the maker prints; nothing was tested here.
- Household arithmetic uses Aquasana’s 2.5 gpm rated flow and its 10,000 gallon figure; other makers’ flow rates differ.
- Certification wording is quoted as each maker prints it; NSF’s shower filter listing showed none of these makers on 2026-09-30.
- Method
- Part numbers, compatible housings, rated life and rated flow read from each maker’s product page or PDF on 2026-09-30; every listed ASIN checked IN_STOCK through the Amazon Creators API the same day; gallons-per-day figures derived by dividing the maker’s gallon rating by the days in its month rating.
