## Short answer

The best refrigerator water filter is the genuine cartridge whose part number matches the one printed on the cartridge you are removing, and whose certification exists as a row in a certifier's directory rather than a line on the box. Of the genuine cartridges compared here, the Frigidaire EPTWFU01 prints the widest claim set on an opened maker document: certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401, rated 125 gallons at 0.65 gpm, replaced every 6 months. The everydrop EDR1RXD1 is the pick with an NSF row under Whirlpool's own name, at 200 gallons under 42, 53 and 401. GE's XWFE data sheet prints IAPMO R&T, 170 gallons and 42, 53, 401 and P473. Samsung's HAF-QIN/EXP has a Samsung row at NSF listing 316 gallons and 401, which Samsung's page omits. LG's LT1000P claims 42, 53 and 401 at 200 gallons, yet NSF's search returned no LG row. Skip every pick if your old cartridge's number is not in the table.

## Fact sheet

- **Answer:** The best refrigerator water filter is the genuine cartridge whose number matches the old one and whose certification is a directory row, not a box claim. Frigidaire's EPTWFU01 data sheet prints IAPMO R&T, NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401, 125 gallons at 0.65 gpm; NSF lists Whirlpool's EDR1RXD1 at 200 gallons under 42, 53 and 401; GE's XWFE sheet prints IAPMO R&T and 170 gallons. Every maker prints 6 months.
- **Comparison basis:** Maker performance data sheets for the GE XWFE (31-6000231), GE RPWFE and Frigidaire EPTWFU01 (A02536409); NSF DWTU official listings searched by trade name for EDR1RXD1, EDR4RXD1, HAF-QIN, HAF-CIN, DA29-00020B, LT1000P, LT700P, RPWFE, MWF, XWFE and EPTWFU01; the LG LT1000P and LT700P product pages; Samsung Canada's HAF-CIN/EXP and HAF-QIN/EXP pages; Whirlpool's everydrop help page; GE's filter-replacement support page. Compared on certifier named, standards printed, rated gallons, flow and interval.
- **Assumptions:** A directory row is quoted as returned on 9 October 2026; NSF updates its DWTU listings continuously and a model can be added or dropped.; Where a maker names a certifier other than NSF (IAPMO R&T for the GE XWFE and Frigidaire EPTWFU01), the absence of an NSF row is expected and is not read as a missing certification; the IAPMO directory itself was not queried this session.; Where a maker names standards but no certifier, and no maker row was found at NSF (LG LT1000P and LT700P, GE MWF), the standards are printed as the maker's claim; Frigidaire's ULTRAWF and WF3CB pages did not respond, so no genuine figure is printed for them.; Gallon capacities are the rated figures on the cited document or row; the interval that arrives first (months or gallons) governs, and Frigidaire's own table shortens 6 months to 4 for a household of 4 and 3 for 5 or more.
- **Method:** OwnerSpec compared the published specifications and certifier listing rows read on 2026-10-09 and confirmed every linked listing in stock the same day; it did not install, run or test any cartridge, prints no health outcome, and reports only the figures the cited document or row states.

If you only want the cheapest cartridge that fits, this is the wrong page: the [by-model guide](/water/guides/refrigerator-water-filter-by-model/) routes the code on your old cartridge to a parts page whose cross-fit table prints the standard each aftermarket row is listed to.

## How was this shortlist built?

Every figure on this page is a maker's published specification or a certifier's listing row, read on 2026-10-09 from the document named beside it. Nothing was tested.

Ten genuine cartridges were compared on five things: whether the maker names a certifier, which standard numbers the maker or the row prints, whether the certifier's directory holds a row under the maker's name, rated gallons and flow, and the interval. What NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401 each cover is on the [standards explainer](/water/guides/nsf-ansi-water-filter-standards-explained/).

The certifier column sorts the field. NSF's own page says a product certified to an NSF/ANSI standard by another body carries no NSF mark and is not in NSF's directory, so a cartridge certified by IAPMO R&T is correctly absent from NSF's search. A maker that prints standard numbers, names no certifier and has no NSF row is making a claim this page cannot tie to a directory, and the table says so.

Three gaps are flagged, not filled: Frigidaire's ULTRAWF and WF3CB pages and GE's MWF pages did not respond, and the IAPMO R&T directory was not queried, so the two IAPMO-certified cartridges rest on their data sheets alone.

## How do the genuine cartridges compare on paper?

Maker figures and NSF rows. "Maker claim" means the maker prints standard numbers but no certifier, and NSF's search returned no row under the maker's name.

| Genuine cartridge | Certifier and standards, as printed | Where the record lives | Rated capacity | Interval |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frigidaire EPTWFU01 | IAPMO R&T: NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401, CSA B483.1 (data sheet A02536409) | Maker data sheet; no NSF row expected | 125 gal at 0.65 gpm | 6 months or sooner |
| everydrop EDR1RXD1 (Filter 1) | NSF: NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401, CSA B483.1 | NSF rows under Whirlpool (P8WB2L, EDR1RXD1B, EDR1RXD1R; W11602565 at 100 gal) | 200 gal at 0.5 gpm | 6 months; indicator at 200 gal |
| everydrop EDR4RXD1 (Filter 4) | NSF: NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401, CSA B483.1 | NSF rows under Whirlpool (W11256135 at 100 gal, W11311161 at 200 gal) | 100 or 200 gal at 0.7 gpm, by row | 6 months |
| GE XWFE | IAPMO R&T: NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401, P473 (data sheet 31-6000231) | Maker data sheet; NSF search: no matching products | 170 gal at 0.5 gpm | 6 months or sooner |
| GE RPWFE | NSF International: NSF/ANSI 42, 53 (data sheet) | Maker data sheet; NSF trade-name search returned one aftermarket row and no GE row | 170 gal at 0.5 gpm | 6 months |
| GE MWF | Not printed: GE's MWF pages were unreachable | NSF rows are aftermarket only | Not printed by GE; GE support says 170 to 200 gal by model | 6 months (GE support) |
| Samsung HAF-QIN/EXP (DA97-17376B) | Samsung page: NSF/ANSI 42, 53; NSF row: 42, 53, 401 | NSF row under Samsung Electronics, 316 gal at 0.4 gpm | 300 gal (Samsung) or 316 gal (NSF row) | 6 months |
| Samsung DA29-00020B (HAF-CIN/EXP) | Samsung page: NSF/ANSI 42, 53; NSF rows: 42, 53, 401 split by model suffix | NSF rows under Samsung Electronics, 300 gal (A-E) and 600 gal (N-3) | 300 gal at 0.5 gpm (Samsung) | 6 months |
| LG LT1000P (ADQ74793501) | Maker claim: NSF42, NSF53, NSF401 | NSF search: aftermarket rows only, no LG row | 200 gal | 6 months |
| LG LT700P (ADQ36006101, not linked) | Maker claim: NSF42, NSF53 | NSF search: aftermarket rows only, no LG row | 200 gal | 6 months |
| Frigidaire ULTRAWF and WF3CB | Not printed: Frigidaire pages did not respond | NSF rows are aftermarket only, NSF/ANSI 42 at 300 gal | Not printed by Frigidaire | Not printed by Frigidaire |

Samsung's page and NSF's row disagree on the HAF-QIN/EXP by 16 gallons and one standard, and Whirlpool's EDR1RXD1 sits at both 200 and 100 gallons by model row: the figure that governs is the row for the exact suffix in your hand.

## Frigidaire EPTWFU01: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the old cartridge reads EPTWFU01 and you want the widest printed claim set on a maker document. Frigidaire's performance data sheet A02536409 reads "Certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI Standard 42, Standard 53, Standard 401, and CSA B483.1", rates the cartridge at 125 gallons and 0.65 gpm, and prints lead at pH 6.5 reduced 99.6 and 99.3% from 150 ug/L, plus PFOA and PFOS rows.

Skip it if the old cartridge reads ULTRAWF or WF3CB: different housings, covered on the [ULTRAWF](/water/parts/frigidaire-ultrawf-puresource-ultra-refrigerator-filter/) and [WF3CB](/water/parts/frigidaire-wf3cb-puresource3-refrigerator-filter/) parts pages. The flaw is capacity: 125 gallons is the smallest rated figure here, and Frigidaire's product page shortens the 6 months to 4 for a household of 4 and 3 for 5 or more. The [cartridge life calculator](/water/calculators/water-filter-cartridge-life-calculator/) turns your daily draw into the month the gallons run out; the cross-fit table is on the [EPTWFU01 parts page](/water/parts/frigidaire-eptwfu01-puresource-ultra-ii-refrigerator-filter/).

## everydrop Filter 1 EDR1RXD1: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the old cartridge reads EDR1RXD1 or W10295370A and you want the certification as an NSF row under the maker's name. NSF's directory lists Whirlpool models P8WB2L, EDR1RXD1B and EDR1RXD1R under NSF/ANSI 42, 53, 401 and CSA B483.1 at 200 gallons and 0.5 gpm, with lead among the 53 claims.

The flaw is the second row: NSF also lists Whirlpool model W11602565 under the same trade name at 100 gallons, and Whirlpool's help page says the indicator alerts at 200 gallons, or 100 gallons on refrigerators without that feature. Filter 4, the everydrop EDR4RXD1, has the same shape of record: NSF rows W11256135 at 100 gallons and W11311161 at 200 gallons, both at 0.7 gpm under 42, 53 and 401. Skip both if the housing is Filter 2 or 3; the [Filter 1](/water/parts/whirlpool-edr1rxd1-filter-1-refrigerator-filter/) and [Filter 4](/water/parts/whirlpool-edr4rxd1-filter-4-refrigerator-filter/) parts pages name the superseded numbers.

## GE XWFE: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the GE refrigerator calls for an XWF or an XWFE. GE's XWFE performance data sheet 31-6000231, linked from GE's own spec page, reads "System certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, 401, and P473", rates the cartridge at 170 gallons and 0.5 gpm between 25 and 120 psi, and says to change it every six months or sooner if flow drops. Its lead and PFOA rows are not legible in the PDF's text layer, so no figure is printed for them.

That sheet is also why an NSF search for XWFE returns "No Matching Products Found": the certifier is IAPMO R&T, the same pattern as the Frigidaire EPTWFU01. The [XWF and XWFE parts page](/water/parts/ge-xwf-xwfe-refrigerator-filter/), written before the sheet was found, prints no GE gallon figure; the 170 gallons here is the newer document. Skip it if the old cartridge reads MWF: a different socket, and the GE MWF has no GE figure this page could reach, only the aftermarket rows on the [MWF parts page](/water/parts/ge-mwf-refrigerator-filter/).

## GE RPWFE: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the old cartridge reads RPWFE and you want the one genuine cartridge here whose data sheet names NSF International as certifier: "Tested and certified by NSF International against NSF/ANSI Standard 42 and Standard 53", 170 gallons, 0.5 gpm, six months, lead reduced 99.3% at pH 6.5 and 98.3% at pH 8.5.

Two flaws. The data sheet prints 42 and 53 only; the 401 and P473 claim the [RPWFE parts page](/water/parts/ge-rpwfe-refrigerator-filter/) quotes from GE's product page could not be reopened and is not printed as sourced here. And NSF's trade-name search for RPWFE returned one aftermarket row and no GE row, so the NSF International statement rests on GE's sheet, not a directory row this page found. Skip it if the old cartridge reads RPWF without the E: the parts page explains the chip.

## Samsung HAF-QIN and DA29-00020B: buy them or skip them?

Buy the HAF-QIN/EXP if the filter head reads DA97-08006C and the old cartridge reads DA97-17376B. Samsung's page rates it at 300 gallons or 6 months and lists NSF/ANSI 42 and 53; NSF's own row under Samsung Electronics lists 316 gallons at 0.4 gpm under 42, 53 and 401.

Buy the DA29-00020B if the housing is the older 90 degree rotate-and-lock type and the old cartridge reads DA29-00020B or DA29-00020A. Samsung's page rates it at 300 gallons or 6 months with 42 and 53. The flaw is that NSF's rows for this trade name split by model suffix, DA97-08006N-3 at 600 gallons under 42, 53 and 401 and DA97-08006A-E at 300 gallons, so do not read one standard set across every box.

Skip both if the fridge takes the DA29-00003G, which has its own [HAF-CIN parts page](/water/parts/samsung-haf-cin-da29-00003g-refrigerator-filter/); the [HAF-QIN](/water/parts/samsung-haf-qin-exp-refrigerator-filter/) and [DA29-00020B](/water/parts/samsung-da29-00020b-refrigerator-filter/) parts pages carry the model lists and aftermarket rows.

**Before you buy any of them**

Do not buy on the brand. Read the full number off the old cartridge, suffix included, then open the certifier's directory for it and read the standards and claims on the row. If the lookup takes longer than you have, the two genuine cartridges with a certifier and standard numbers on an opened maker document are the Frigidaire EPTWFU01 (IAPMO R&T, 42, 53, 401) and the everydrop EDR1RXD1 (NSF rows under Whirlpool, 42, 53, 401). If the ice has white flecks, read the [white flakes guide](/water/guides/white-flakes-particles-in-ice-or-kettle/) first: a cartridge does not fix scale from the supply.

## LG LT1000P: buy it or skip it?

Buy it if the old cartridge carries one of LG's five part numbers for it (ADQ74793501, AGF80300704, AGF80300705, ADQ74793507 or AGF80300703). LG's page rates it at 200 gallons or 6 months and prints NSF42, NSF53 and NSF401.

The flaw is the record. NSF's search by trade name LT1000P returned only aftermarket rows at 200 gallons and no LG row, and the same search for LT700P, which LG prints at 200 gallons with NSF42 and NSF53, found none either, so LG's standards stand here as the maker's claim with no certifier named. Skip the LT1000P if the old cartridge reads ADQ36006101 or another LT700P number: the [LT1000P](/water/parts/lg-lt1000p-refrigerator-filter/) and [LT700P](/water/parts/lg-lt700p-refrigerator-filter/) parts pages show no part number on both.

## What goes wrong?

Three, in the order they cost money.

| Failure | What it costs | The check |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong housing | A cartridge that will not seat, or seats and bypasses | Match the number printed on the old cartridge, never the fridge brand; the [by-model guide](/water/guides/refrigerator-water-filter-by-model/) routes each code |
| Counterfeit genuine | AHAM's 2018 report: 32 counterfeit filters tested, 100% failed the NSF/ANSI 53 lead requirement; CBP seized 5,202 counterfeit fridge filters at LA/Long Beach in 2019 | Buy from the maker or a retailer it names; keep the box with its marks |
| Box claim read as certification | A 42-only cartridge bought for lead | EPA's lead-filter tool: a certifier's mark plus a statement of testing against NSF/ANSI 53, then the row in that certifier's directory |

If lead is the reason for the filter, the [lead service line guide](/water/guides/lead-in-tap-water-service-line/) covers the sampling that tells you whether a fridge cartridge is the right class at all, and the [generic versus OEM guide](/water/guides/refrigerator-water-filter-oem-vs-generic-nsf/) walks the EPTWFU01 rows suffix by suffix. If you are buying in Q4, the [water filter deal check](/water/guides/water-filter-black-friday-prime-day-deal-check/) is the page for timing; the live cards above show any current saving, and this page prints none.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which refrigerator water filter is actually certified to reduce lead?

The ones with a lead claim on a certifier's row or a maker data sheet that names the certifier. Frigidaire's EPTWFU01 sheet prints a lead row under IAPMO R&T to NSF/ANSI 53; GE's RPWFE sheet prints lead at 99.3% under NSF International; NSF's own rows for Whirlpool's EDR1RXD1 and EDR4RXD1 and Samsung's HAF-QIN carry lead under 53. LG's pages claim 53 but NSF's search returned no LG row.

### Why does a genuine GE XWFE or Frigidaire EPTWFU01 not show up in the NSF database?

Because both makers name IAPMO R&T as the certifier, not NSF. GE's XWFE performance data sheet reads 'System certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI Standards 42, 53, 401, and P473' and Frigidaire's EPTWFU01 sheet reads 'Certified by IAPMO R&T against NSF/ANSI Standard 42, Standard 53, Standard 401'. NSF's directory holds only NSF-certified products, so an NSF search for either returns nothing.

### How many gallons does a refrigerator water filter last?

It depends on the cartridge, and the months limit usually arrives first. GE's XWFE and RPWFE data sheets rate 170 gallons, LG rates the LT1000P and LT700P at 200 gallons, NSF's rows list Whirlpool's EDR1RXD1 at 200 gallons, Samsung prints 300 gallons for the HAF-QIN/EXP and DA29-00020B, and Frigidaire rates the EPTWFU01 at 125 gallons. Every one of those makers prints 6 months as well.

### Is a generic refrigerator water filter as good as the genuine one?

Only its listing row can say. NSF's directory for the EPTWFU01 fit shows the same aftermarket maker selling a 42-only cartridge and a 42, 53 and 401 cartridge one suffix apart, both at 200 gallons. The genuine Frigidaire part is certified by IAPMO R&T, not NSF. Read the standard numbers and the claims for the exact model with its suffix, then compare; the brand on the box decides nothing.

### How do I tell a counterfeit refrigerator filter from a genuine one?

A counterfeit copies the maker's brand, part number and certification marks. AHAM's 2018 report tested 32 counterfeit filters supplied by LG, Electrolux, Samsung, Whirlpool, GE Appliances and Sub-Zero and found 100% failed the NSF/ANSI 53 lead requirement, and CBP seized 5,202 counterfeit refrigerator filters at LA/Long Beach in 2019. Buy from the maker or a retailer it names, and keep the box with its marks.
